Managing promotions

Share a signup link or promo code that grants a package automatically.

A promotion wraps a package in a shareable signup link and a promo code. Anyone who signs up through the link receives the package automatically, and anyone who already has an account can enter the code instead. Promotions live on the Audience → Promotions page.

One promotion grants exactly one package. A package can have as many promotions as you want, which is how you tell a conference sign-up apart from a partner referral even when both grant the same thing.

Create a promotion

  1. Go to Audience → Promotions and click New promotion.
  2. Name it. This is for you, not the recipient: "Summer launch" tells you what a code was for six months later.
  3. Pick the package it grants.
  4. Set Max uses, or leave it blank for unlimited.
  5. Set an expiry date, or leave it blank so it never expires.
  6. Enter a Promo code, or leave it blank and one is generated. Codes are letters and numbers only, 3 to 64 characters.
  7. Create it.

You can also create a promotion in the last step of the new package wizard, which saves going to a second page.

The code can only be set when you create the promotion. Everything else stays editable.

Share it

The link looks like your-site/?promoCode=SUMMER2026. Click Copy link on the promotion, or the copy icon on its row in the list.

The link handles all three kinds of visitor: someone with no account signs up and gets the package, someone who already has an account signs in and gets it, and someone already signed in gets it on the spot.

If it is easier to hand out a code than a URL, give people the code and tell them to enter it under Settings → Apply a promo code.

Read the status

Every promotion carries one of four statuses.

  • Active. Working normally.
  • Expiring soon. The expiry date is less than seven days out.
  • Expired. Past its expiry date. The link no longer works.
  • Exhausted. It hit its max uses. The link no longer works.

The Usage column shows redemptions against the cap, and the promotion's own page adds how many are left, when it expires, and when it was created.

Redeem for an existing user

When someone should have gone through the link but did not, apply it for them:

  1. Open the menu on the promotion, in the list or on its page.
  2. Choose Redeem for user.
  3. Search for the person by name or email, and click Redeem.

This claims a usage slot the same as a normal redemption. The grant itself applies in the background, so check Activity if you want to confirm it landed.

Redemption history

A promotion's page lists everyone who redeemed it and when. From a row you can jump to that person's entries in the package activity ledger to see exactly what they received.

Revoke a promotion

Open the menu and choose Revoke. The link and the code stop working immediately.

Past redemptions are kept, and nobody loses what they already received. Revoking closes the door, it does not undo anything.

Tips

  • Cap anything you post publicly. An uncapped link with a subscription behind it is a standing invitation to the whole internet.
  • Set an expiry even on internal codes. Codes outlive the campaign that made them.
  • Use a memorable custom code for anything people type by hand, and let the generated one stand for links people click.
